"FROM LEVY, FOR LEVY"

Hi, I'm Darla Whistler

BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

A long time Levy County resident, and a proud Chiefland High School alumna, Darla carries a deep commitment to her community. Darla is a double Gator, earning a Bachelor's Degree with Honors at the University of Florida in 1998 and her Juris Doctor in 2001. With 20 years of experience serving as Assistant State Attorney, Darla brings unmatched legal experience and a heart for service to the bench.

As an Assistant State Attorney, Darla currently works in the Alachua County Special Victims Unit. In her role, she investigates and prosecutes crimes against women and children, including sexual offenses, domestic violence, and homicide. Prior to her position in the Special Victims Unit, Darla  served as a prosecutor in Levy County for 15 years. During her time, she was instrumental in implementing the first Mental Health Court in Levy County from 2018-2021.

Darla is Vice Chair of the Florida Bar Grievance Committee, demonstrating her commitment to fairness and integrity both inside and outside the courtroom. In her role as Vice Chair, Darla is second-in-command of the committee that investigates allegations of attorney misconduct. This committee determines whether there is probable cause to believe a lawyer violated the rules regulating The Florida Bar. Darla participates in the deliberations and votes on whether complaints should be dismissed, diverted, or proceed as formal disciplinary charges.

Darla is married to Lt. Scott Tummond of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, where he’s served for 32 years. Darla and Scott are active members of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where they support local outreach. Together, their lives reflect a shared dedication to public service, faith, and family.

Now, Darla is ready to give back to the community that gave so much to her. With strong local roots and a passion for justice, Darla Whistler is ready to serve as your next Levy County Judge.
